Trains

As I shot this photo I was being watched by an employee of the railroad, or the State of Mississippi, I am not sure which. I guess it is possible he thought I was a terrorist or something, but he didn't attempt to stop me from getting the shot. As I passed him on my way back to the truck he asked if I was "admiring the scenery," to which I replied that "I was." The clouds did not look so detailed to the naked eye, but when I merged the 32-bit HDR image the clouds blew up, but not out.

Red Ford Truck

This truck is parked along highway 90 just before Waveland Mississippi. After passing it hundreds of times I finally went back with my camera and caught it. I was more concerned about water moccasins in the tall grass than anything else, but I managed to capture the truck as I had seen it so many times before.

Beached Across the Street

This Catholic church was built in 1868 along Lower Bay Road in Hancock County Mississippi directly across the street from where it now rests. In August of 2005 Hurricane Katrina lifted the church off its foundation and brought it to rest suspended over a large ditch about 75 feet from its proper home. As the property is of historical importance it has not been razed. Unfortunately, as neither the Catholic Church nor the Government will pay to move and restore the structure, it remains "beached" across the street.

For Sale

This boat is for sale. If I had the money I think it would be a fun project to document the restoration of something that has been, by way of processes both natural and unnatural, endowed with so much character. I think I would find it difficult to sand off the telephone number of the current owner because it helps to make this boat so unique.

Fishing Pier

High dynamic range photography offers some really amazing options for photographers. This series gave me to opportunity to really work the clouds while keeping all of the detail of the sand. These piers are scattered along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I thought it was amazing that no one had yet disturbed the sand that morning.

Storming Across the Bay

I wonder how many people have photographs of this storm. I first noticed the catamaran and had to get a shot of it. I find the other shot of the catamaran (facing away from the storm) boring, so really the subject ends up being the storm for me.

Barrel

If I could adapt this to fashion I would have an athletic shirtless, model in a pair of 700 dollar jeans, possibly DSquared or D&G, sitting with his back to the barrel, propped up on his elbows staring at his boots or his belt buckle.

On/Off Digital World

This is a sabbatier print on resin. I was working on a project covering transportation in New York City and saw the sign above me. When I got back to the darkroom I decided to kind of play on the on/off aspect of the sign, so I flashed the paper. More than the sign though, I think this image captures these four people sharing space, however momentarily.

I Am What You Made Me

Doodling comes in many forms I guess. While I was on the phone with a friend I started moving around leaves, bark, and pine needles. As she described a recent catharsis, this image took shape. In a way it is a portrait, both of my friend, and of that moment. I didn't want to lose it with the first stiff wind so I grabbed my camera and my tripod.

AKG K702

These AKG K702 reference headphones have been kind of my obsession lately. More specifically listening to lossless quality live performances of bands with particularly exceptional musical ability. Usually when they aren't on my head they are resting on my laptop, hugging the screen as they are in this photo.

Grado SR60s

Pictured here is stage one of my diabetic diet and my old headphones (Grado SR60s), which by the way are amazing for the price. Inside the starbucks tumbler is sugar free chocolate milk, which isn't really sugar free because milk has so much freaking sugar in it, did you know that? I have since phased it out completely along with carbs, such as taquitos (that was damned difficult), and sugar. One small indulgence that I refuse to give up are the skinny cow sugar free ice cream sandwiches. They. Are. Amazing. So is it worth it? I have lost 40 pounds in 4 months, so I say yes.

*Air Museum

Built in 1943 by the U.S. Navy, Hangar B is a converted blimp hanger that houses the Tillamook Air Museum.

Almost immediately the stark lines of the hangar's concrete façade brought to mind images of the Chernobyl sarcophagus. Chernobyl conjured thoughts of fallout, and the undeniable environmental impact of human achievement. I wondered if one day we would have air museums for air, not just machines that fly through it. That is when I realized I was, in a sense, looking at two air museums simultaneously.
